Evan Buytendijk

If you have ever had the pleasure of meeting Evan Buytendijk, owner and director of IEB, you know that his love for the forest is deeper rooted than the oldest trees in that same forest. Evan, a man whose passion for wood and sustainability is as strong as the wood he loves, is not only an expert in advising on quality systems, FSC/PEFC-CoC, and a whole alphabet soup of certifications, but also the Vice President of the Royal Dutch Forestry Association (KNBV).

With a background in Western forestry and international timber trade from Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences, not to mention his secondary forestry education in Velp, Evan considers the forest as his second office.

Outside of office hours, Evan transforms from a respected engineer into a true animal whisperer. His passion for horses is almost as great as his love for wood, and with two German uprights at his side, it’s no surprise that he also has a diploma in big game management.

After a long day of advising on quality systems and protecting forests, he finds relaxation in the warmth of the sauna. It’s in this hot, steamy room where Evan says his best ideas come to him - perhaps it’s the heat that ripens his thoughts like good wood.

With all his work within IEB, Evan wants to contribute to a future-proof wood chain and a sustainable world. “We should still be able to enjoy beautiful forests and wood products in the future.”

His previous education, the Higher Forestry School and his years of work experience from forests, to timber trade, to timber applications, make Evan a very versatile advisor within the timber industry.
